The autorickshaw and the tanker had collided, the SP had earlier claimed. But when he got there, he says, they discovered that a container truck had struck the autorickshaw.

Meena said the deceased were identified as Lalaram (30) and his brother Puttu Lal (50), Shivpal (45), Surendra Kashyap (50), Ankush (50), Anant Ram (35) and his wife Basanta Devi (70), Maniram (45), Pothiram (50), Rampa Devi (45), Rupa Devi (50) and Adesh (20).

The driver of the truck left the scene of the collision. Twelve km from the collision scene, his abandoned vehicle was discovered later. Police stated that they were attempting to apprehend the driver.

Witnesses stated that due to the incident, every passenger in the autorickshaw fell to the ground, and some became trapped between the two vehicles.

The autorickshaw got stuck beneath the container truck. They claimed that in releasing the autorickshaw, the truck driver moved the truck back and forth, crushing the injured people who were lying on the road. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed sorrow over the lives lost in the collision.
