New Delhi: Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 5G services at a telecom event in Delhi. The service is expected to progressively cover the entire country in next couple of years. Potentially, it will transform India’s digital landscape. Soon after launching these services in 13 major Indian cities, PM Modi headed over to Reliance’s Jio pavilion and experienced the “true 5G” devices and use cases through Jio Glass.

Reliance chief Mukesh Ambani’s eldest son, Akash Ambani, who recently took over as Chairman of Jio Infocomm’s board, personally gave a demo to PM Modi of 5G Services.
PM Modi spent time to understand this big development. “He also spent time understanding the indigenous development of end-to-end 5G technology by a team of young Jio engineers, and how 5G can help bridge the gap between urban and rural healthcare delivery,” Jio said in a statement.
He was accompanied by Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Junior Telecom Minister Devusinh Chauhan, and Reliance Industries Limited Chairman Mukesh Ambani at the event.

He also visited the stalls of Airtel, Vodafone Idea, C-DOT, and others.
5G services will be available in 13 Indian cities after Diwali. Full 5G coverage will take time, till 2024 as operators like Airtel have noted. Vodafone-Idea has not yet confirmed the rollout date for its 5G plans, though details should get confirmed soon.
The fifth generation of mobile communication networks, or 5G, is expected to provide significantly higher speeds and more application possibilities than 4G. It is anticipated that the deployment of 5G will hasten the uptake of cloud gaming, AR/VR, the Internet of Things, and other technologies. Several business use cases exist for 5G as well.
