Parliament drama orchestrated by the BJP: CPI(M)

It must be noted that since March 5, the parliament hasn’t conducted a productive discussion or debate yet.

The functioning of the Parliament was adjourned even today adding another unproductive day to the budget session of the parliament. Continuing their protest for the special category status to Andhra Pradesh, TDP MPs stood outside the parliament holding placards demanding the same.

However, as the ruckus inside parliament grew, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the house till afternoon. On the other hand, amidst the chaos, Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day. It must be noted that after the passing of Finance bill on March 5, the parliament hasn’t conducted a productive discussion or debate yet.

The YSRCP and TDP have moved in total three no-confidence motion against the BJP government. However, the motion which was to be taken up for discussion on Monday hasn’t yet been introduced in the parliament. While BJP MPs are citing the ruckus created by the opposition as the reason, CPI(M) has hit back saying the non-functioning of the parliament is because of the ruling BJP government.

The CPI(M) is supporting the No-confidence motion moved by TDP. Mohammad Salim- CPI (M) leader said that the government is selectively implying the rules. Accusing the government of going silent whenever it feels, he said, “If the House is not in order, whose responsibility is it? Din is being orchestrated by the government.”

On the other hand, TMC MP Derek O’Brien said that there is no such rule that the motion can’t be taken up because the house is not in order. Talking to reporters O’Brien said, “The Speaker is duty-bound to take up the no-confidence motion, whether the House is in order or not.”

After the adjournment of the Rajya Sabha this morning, the opposition leaders held a meeting at the chamber of Ghulam Nabi Azad who is the leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha. Accusing the government of running away from the debate on important issues, Azad said, “The entire opposition holds that the government is responsible for not taking any interest in the functioning of Parliament.” “The government is running away from the debate,” he added.
