Aam Aadmi Party to contest alone in 2019 Lok Sabha polls

New Delhi | Amid rumours of forming an alliance with the Congress for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday said that party would be contesting alone for the 2019 polls.

Speaking to news agency ANI, AAP leader Gopal Rai said,” Our party will contest Lok Sabha elections in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana, we will contest alone.” Attacking the Congress party over the recent statement by its party leaders, Rai said,” For Congress, their arrogance is bigger than national interest, it is visible from recent statements of Punjab CM and Sheila Dikshit ji.”

The Aam Aadmi Party in its first tenure formed a minority government in Delhi with the conditional support of the Congress party for a term of 49 days in 2013. In the fresh assembly elections in 2015, AAP made a landslide victory winning 67 out of 70 seats in the Delhi. The Congress party had failed to win even a single seat in the 2015 Delhi assembly elections. In the 2014 general election, AAP managed to win 4 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab which reflected its performance in the 2017 assembly elections in Punjab. In 2017 AAP emerged as the second largest party in Punjab winning 20 seats.
