Ahead of Delhi Polls Saina Nehwal Joins BJP, says “Narendra Sir is my inspiration”

One of India’s most successful athletes, Saina Nehwal, with both Olympics and Commonwealth Games medals under her belt joins the Ruling BJP.

New Delhi| Haryana-born Badminton champion Saina Nehwal joined the ruling BJP today and is likely to campaign for the party ahead of the February 8 Delhi Assembly election.

“I have won medals for the country. I am very hard working and I love hardworking persons. I can see Prime Minister Narendra Modi does so much for the country, I want to do something for the country with him, “Badminton ace said.

Saina Nehwal’s older sister Chandranshu has also joined the BJP.

At the joining ceremony, Nehwal, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi describing him as a hard-working leader who’s done a lot for sports and said that she draws inspiration from her.

In 2015, she became the first Indian woman shuttler to achieve the World No. 1 ranking. She is currently ranked ninth in the world. She has also been honoured with the country’s top sporting awards like the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and Arjuna Award. She was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2016.

Last year, a number of sportspersons including cricketer Gautam Gambhir and Babita Phogat had joined BJP.

Saina Nehwal’s induction comes at a very crucial time, before February 8 Delhi assembly election, which pits the BJP against the ruling Aam Aadmi Party.
