AIADMK “hopeful” after Supreme Court decision on Cauvery issue

The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Centre to devise a draft Cauvery management scheme by May 3.

As the Supreme Court ruling on Monday came as a relief to the agitators protesting over Cauvery river issue across Tamil Nadu, the political parties have hailed the decision made by the Apex court. The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Centre to devise a draft Cauvery management scheme. The deadline for the same has been set, May 3.

The AIADMK government which earlier had expressed satisfaction over disrupting the parliament during budget session on the issue also expressed hope that the formation of the board will not be delayed further.

Tamil Nadu Law Minister C.V. Shanmugam hailed the Supreme Court observation as a “victory”, however, expressed discontent over the extended time period. “The Supreme Court’s observation is welcome. The Central government should now draft Cauvery management Scheme and file it before the SC by May 3 without any delay,” said Shanmugam.

However, many political parties are still sceptical over Centre’s action plan. The parties feel that the Centre may postpone the formation of Cauvery Management Board until the elections are over in the state of Karnataka-which is also involved in the dispute.
