Amidst US-Iran tensions PM Modi dials Trump

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spoke with US President Donald Trump and expressed his desire to continue to work with him to enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest, a PMO statement said. Narendra Modi conveyed his New Year greetings to the US president, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.

In an interaction, the PM Modi noted that India-US relations, which are built on trust, mutual respect and understanding, “have grown from strength to strength”.

Prime Minister highlighted the notable progress made in deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries in the past year and expressed his desire to continue to work with President Trump for intensifying cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, the remarks said.

President Donald Trump wished the people of India prosperity and progress in the New Year.

PM Modi expressed satisfaction at the achievements in the relationship in the last few years and repeated his readiness for further deepening bilateral cooperation, according to the comments.

India and the US are close to concluding a trade package that would provide enhanced market access to both nations. The trade deal was first announced by Trump when he met Modi in New York in September on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. On September 24, 2019, Trump had said his nation would soon have a trade deal with India to boost economic ties between the two nations.
