“Committed to Congress ideology that runs in my blood, let there be no doubts about this! However, given the continuing exclusion and insults, as a self-respecting person- I was left with no choice,” Sharma further added in his tweet.

Just five days had passed since senior Congressman Ghulam Nabi Azad made a comparable attempt before the development in Congress. A few hours after being appointed as the leader of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress campaign committee on August 16, Azad announced his resignation.
Sharma complained to Sonia Gandhi about being disregarded during the consultative process. He assured her, nevertheless, that he would keep advocating for the state’s party candidates.

On April 26, the former Union minister and deputy leader of the Congress in the Rajya Sabha was named head of the Himachal Pradesh Steering Committee.

Sharma, who first contested assembly elections in 1982 and was given a Rajya Sabha ticket by then prime minister Indira Gandhi in 1984, has been a Rajya Sabha member ever since and has occupied several key positions in the party.
