Asif Ali Zardari Elected Pakistan’s 14th President

Asif Ali Zardari, co-chairperson of the Pakistan Peoples Party, secured victory became Pakistan’s 14th President on March 9, marking his second term as head of state. Zardari, 68, was the combined nominee of PPP and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, defeating rival Mahmood Khan Achakzai, 75, the candidate of Sunni Ittehad Council.
