Bhupesh Baghel appointed as Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister

Raipur | The Congress party on Sunday announced that Bhupesh Baghel will be the new Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh.

The Congress party announced about the appointed as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh on Twitter.

Under Baghel’s tenure as the Chhattisgarh Congress unit chief, the Congress party managed to end the 15-year governance of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in Chhattisgarh. In a historic turnaround, the Congress party won 68 seats in the 90 seats Chhattisgarh assembly restricting the Raman Singh led BJP to just 15 seats.

Baghel was a minister in the first cabinet of Chhatisgarh after its formation in 2000. He is a 5 time MLA from the PatanConstituencyy in Chhattisgarh and even worked as the deputy leader of opposition in the state assembly from 2003 to 2008. Baghel along with T. S. Singh Deo, Charan Das Mahant, P. L. Punia is credited to rejuvenate the Chhattisgarh Congress after Jhiram ghati incident in 2013 when former state minister Mahendra Karma and Chhattisgarh Congress chief Nand Kumar Patel where killed in a Maoist attack.

Bhupesh Baghel along with Madhya Pradesh’s Kamal Nath and Rajasthan’s Ashok Gehlot will take the oath of the Chief Minister of their respective states on the same day on 17 December.
