Washington| Microsoft Co-founder and Billionaire Philanthropist Bill Gates cam down on US President Donald Trump heavily for cutting off the funding to World Health Organisation (WHO) in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. He said that the world needs the global health agency “now more than ever”.
The US President Donald Trump had earlier halted the funding to the WHO, accusing the global body of mishandling the coronavirus crisis and making countries grapple with struggling economies. The United States had contributed $400 million to the WHO the last tear.
Bill Gates responded, “halting funding for the World Health Organization during a world health crisis is as dangerous as it sounds.”
Gates further added, “Their work is slowing the spread of COVID-19 and if that work is stopped no other organization can replace them. The world needs WHO now more than ever.”

The coronavirus pandemic has so far claimed more than 125,000 lives across the world and infected over 2 million worldwide since its first case in Wuhan of China.
US President Donald Trump had said that he could see “rays of light” on the horizon for the world’s largest economy but accused the WHO of “severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the coronavirus.”
He also attacked the Geneva-based health body for propagating “false information”. He also said that WHO’s reliance on the Chinese data “likely caused a 20-fold increase in cases worldwide.”
Antonio Guterres, the United Nations Chief also condemned Trump’s attack and said this is not a time “to reduce the resources” to WHO. He also added that WHO is “absolutely critical to the world’s efforts to win the war” against the coronavirus.
