Sonia Gandhi also said in her address, “It is clear that the Modi-Shah government has gone bankrupt in a matter of decency.
New Delhi| The interim president of Congress, Sonia Gandhi, commented on the developments in Maharashtra. In a meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party on Thursday, she said that the BJP in Maharashtra did a shameful job of damaging the democracy. BJP tried very hard not to let us form a coalition government of three parties ShivSena, NCP and Congress.
Not only this, but Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari also acted on the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Sonia Gandhi also said that the decision taken by the Governor to administer the oath of office to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis cannot be called absolutely correct.

Governor Koshiyari administered the oath of office to Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar of NCP as Deputy Chief Minister at 8 am on 23 November. Earlier, President’s rule was removed at 5:47 am. ShivSena, Congress and NCP petitioned the Supreme Court against the Governor’s decision. Ajit first resigned on 26th November, followed by Fadnavis.
‘BJP was very confident’
The interim president of Congress further said, “The pre-poll alliance of BJP-ShivSena in Maharashtra could not be sustained because the BJP was proud and overconfident. He tried to harm our alliance in every way. We appealed to the Supreme Court. After this, the Modi-Shah government was exposed. I assure that the three parties are united and thwarted the BJP’s intentions.” All the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs of the party were present at the Congress Parliamentary Party meeting.
‘Government fails to solve problems’
Sonia also said in her address, “It is clear that the Modi-Shah government has gone bankrupt in a matter of decency. The central government has also failed in solving the country’s problems. The country is currently going through an economic crisis. The growth rate is continuously going down, unemployment is increasing and investment is not happening ”
“Farmers, shopkeepers and small-scale businessmen are under stress due to the decline in the economy. The consumption is decreasing in rural areas, exports have declined. The prices of food items are constantly increasing, as a result, people’s purchasing power has decreased. Instead of dealing with these problems, the Modi-Shah government is busy in manipulating the figures. Moreover, these figures are not even being published,” Sonia Gandhi highlighted.
The government backtracked on RCEP due to opposition from Congress
Sonia Gandhi said, “Our party opposed the signing of RCEP in the interest of farmers, small scale industries and fishermen, while the Modi government seemed ready for it. The effect of our protest was that Prime Minister Modi suddenly remembered Gandhiji’s learning. The Prime Minister and the Home Minister are doing politics to divert attention from important issues like employment of common people. The citizenship bill created fear among the people. It is also against the basic spirit of our Constitution.”
Kashmir’s ground reality is beyond government claims
Sonia said that three months ago, the Modi government launched another attack on democracy when Article 370 was removed from Jammu and Kashmir. The government called it a new beginning for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, but the ground reality is much different. Politicians who were once with the BJP were imprisoned. Even the children did not remain untouched by it. In an attempt to give itself a clean chit with the allegations, the government made Europe politicians visit Kashmir through alleged NGOs.
Modi government brought electoral bond scheme for its benefit
Sonia Gandhi said, “The reality of electoral bonds also came to light through RTI. The government hurriedly took arbitrary decisions only for the benefit of the ruling party, ignoring the advice of the Reserve Bank. An embarrassing anecdote like spying of citizens came out in WhatsApp case. “There are no rules and regulations in the Modi-Shah government. Leaders are being targeted due to revenge politics. People like our colleague P Chidambaram and DK Shivakumar succumbed to it. The Congress party will not bow down to any pressure and will forcefully oppose the government’s wrong decisions,” Sonia Gandhi said.
