“BJP’s Fake Raid,” Rahul Gandhi Amid Raid On Punjab CM’s Nephew

Chandigarh: Amid raiding Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s Nephew Bhupinder Singh Honey, in an old mining case, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said that it is a fake raid by Bhartiya Janta Party. He says that it’s the ruling party’s “favorite weapon because they have things to hide.” The raids are in connection with an old case and come just weeks before state assembly elections, there is a purely political motive hidden, he further said.

In Past, many opposition parties have accused the Narendra Modi-led government of misusing central agencies for political vendetta.

Amid the raid, Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “Not everyone is like you. We have #NoFear,” his tweet said, along with the hashtag “#BJPFakeRaid”.

Enforcement Directorate in connection with sand mining has raided Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s nephew Bhupinder Singh Honey. Bhupinder Singh Honey’s home and 10 other places in Punjab were searched early this morning. A money laundering case has been filed by the Enforcement Directorate, against Bhupinder. The Enforcement Directorate is investigating several people with political links, officials said.

ED got about Rs 4 crore from the residence of Bhupinder Singh and about Rs 2 crore from the residence of Sandeep Kumar. Also, some documents related to the property have been recovered.

Quoting officials, news agency IANS reported that raids were also conducted at the premises of the sand mafia and Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s nephew’s Bhupinder Singh Honey. During the raids, officials said that the ED recorded the statement of those who were present at the house of Honey. The raids came up in the middle of intense campaigning in Punjab. Punjab Polls will now be held on February 20. The counting of voting will start from March 10.

In the Punjab campaign, illegal sand mining has been one of the talking points. The ruling Congress has been accused by its former Chief Minister, Amarinder Singh, of links to the trade. Amarinder Singh, who quit the Congress after being sacked as Chief Minister in September, alleges that all Congress MLAs are involved in the illegal trade of sand. “If I start telling names I will have to start from the top,” he had said last month. Speaking with the reporters Singh had aid that he alerted Congress President Sonia Gandhi about MLAs involved. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has emerged as a strong challenge to the Congress in Punjab, has also targeted Chief Minister Channi over allegations of illegal sand mining in his constituency.
