BJP’s Raja Singh claims police hit him with lathis; cops say otherwise

Hyderabad | Controversial BJP legislator from Goshamahal, Raja Singh was allegedly thrashed by some policemen during an event to replace the statue of a freedom fighter in the Hyderabad city late on Wednesday.

According to reports, the BJP MLA was attempting to replace a freedom fighter at Jumeraat Bazaar in Hyderabad’s Old City area.

Singh and his aides wanted to replace the statue during the event but they were resisted by some local policemen. The police claimed that he did not have permission to install the statue.

“The incident happened around 1 am when Raja Singh and his followers visited the spot. There is a 6-7 feet tall statue of Rani Avanti for many years now at the Y-junction there, but the MLA wanted to replace it with a statue that was almost 25 feet tall.” Shahinayathgunj SHO Chand Basha told The News Minute.

“When we pointed out that he did not have permission for the same, he did not listen to us and insisted that he would put it up. Additionally, the statue was also made of plaster of paris and fibre, so besides causing congestion, it could potentially fall down due to strong winds and even result in injuries to bystanders,” he added.

The supporters claimed that when the BJP MLA and his supporters refused to comply with the orders, the police resorted to lathi-charge in which Singh was injured. He was allegedly beaten with wooden sticks.

Raja Singh claimed that he was hit by four police officers. He insisted that he was hit with lathis, which resulted in the injury.

However, the police claim that Raja Singh was trying to hit himself with stone and they tried to protect Singh so that the matter did not get worse.

They alleged that the ruckus was created by Singh and his supporters to create communal disharmony.

A video regarding this has been doing rounds on social media.

Raja Singh sustained injuries on his head and was urgently taken to the Osmania Hospital for treatment.

The BJP MLA was bleeding when he was taken to the hospital.

The police have registered a case against Raja Singh, under sections of the IPC dealing with unlawful assembly and rioting

Raja Singh, the only BJP MLA in the present Telangana Assembly, has been repeatedly accused of making controversial statements and speeches.
