After the actress visited JNU on 5 January, she has come across heavy criticism from the BJP and its supporters for “siding with the Leftists”. Some also called her act of silent solidarity a promotional gimmick for her newly released movie Chhapaak. The film is based on life of an acid attack survivor played by Deepika Padukone.

“The demand for a boycott of the actress and her film is wrong. The country cannot be run in a ‘Talibani’ style.”, Raut said while talking PTI.

The film directed by Meghna Gulzar hit the theatres on Friday.

Three Congress-ruled states have already declared Chhapaak tax-free.
