Jyotiraditya Scindia in his resignation letter addressed to party president Sonia Gandhi said that this is a path that has been drawing itself out over the last years.
New Delhi| In what can be termed as a loss of face for the Congress party, its long-time leader Jyotiraditya Scindia has resigned from the party today. His resignation came a day after rebellion grew in the MP unit of the party. On Monday evening, more than 15 Congress MLAs including some sitting ministers went incommunicado. Reportedly they were holed up in Bengaluru. They were Scindia Camp MLAs.
Scindia in a resignation letter addressed to party president Sonia Gandhi said that this is a path that has been drawing itself out over the last years.
Scindia has been associated with Congress for 18 years. His father Madhavrao Scindia too was associated with Congress and was considered very close to Gandhi family.
Before tendering his resignation, Scindia met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in Delhi. He was accompanied by Home Minister Amit Shah.
Reportedly, he will join BJP and the announcement will be made soon. BJP has promised to give him a Rajya Sabha ticket from MP.
