Centre’s negligent attitude responsible for Dalit outrage: NSCA President

“If the government would have been sensitive towards the cause of SC/ST community, the situation wouldn’t be this bad,” said NSCA President.

A week after the nationwide Bharat Bandh called by several Dalit organizations to protest the amendment made by the Supreme Court in the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, The NSCA has filed an impleading application. The National Scheduled Castes Alliance, an organization fighting for the rights of Scheduled Caste people filed the application in the review petition. The review petition was filed by the Centre on April 2. However, during one of the hearings last week, the Supreme court bench refused to stay the SC/ST act amendment.

The NSCA president Paramjit Singh Kainth claimed that government’s negligent attitude towards the problems of the Scheduled Caste community has been the main reason behind community’s recent outrage. He further added that the Supreme Court judgement affects each and every individual of the community and thus the organization is fighting for their rights. “If the government would have been sensitive towards the cause of upliftment of SC/ST community, the situation wouldn’t be this bad,” he said.
