China Congratulates Joe Biden & Kamala Harris On US Election Win

China congratulated US President-elect Joe Biden on Friday, nearly a week after he was declared the winner by major media houses in the US.

China congratulated US President-elect Joe Biden on Friday, nearly a week after he was declared the winner by major media houses in the US. China said it respects “the choice of the American people”.

“We respect the choice of the American people. We express our congratulations to Mr Biden and Ms Harris,” foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said at a regular press briefing.

In recent years, under Trump administration, US-China ties have grown increasingly strained.

China was among several other countries who’ve not congratulated the president-elect including Russia and Mexico. Beijing had earlier comment this week that it had “noticed Mr Biden declared he is the winner”.

President Donald Trump, however, has not conceded to Joe Biden, which he should have done by now as per normal practice. Trump has held an alleged “voter fraud” a reason not to concede. He has expressed on several occasions that he would fight the alleged discrepancies legally.

However, US election officials said there is no evidence of compromised ballots or corrupt voting systems in the US election.
