Before starting his hunger strike CM Naidu paid his tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. Opposition leader including Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah are expected to extend their support to Chandrababu Naidu’s fast today.
Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his hunger strike, CM Naidu said, “Today we came here all the way to protest against the central government. Yesterday PM visited Andhra Pradesh, Guntur one day before the dharna. What is the need, I am asking.”
Attacking the Union government special status for Andhra Pradesh CM Naidu said,” If you won’t fulfill our demands, we know how to get them fulfilled. This is about self respect of people of AP. Whenever there is an attack on our self-respect, we won’t tolerate it. I am warning this govt&particularly the PM to stop attacking an individual.”
After the split of Andhra Pradesh in June 2014 and the formation of a new state Telangana, the Naidu led Telegu Desam Party is demanding special status for the state. The party pulled out of the BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) after the central government’s refusal to grant special status to the state. A TDP delegation led by Naidu is also expected to submit a memorandum to President Ram Nath Kovind over this issue on Tuesday.
