CM post will remain with Sena for full five years says Sanjay Raut

“The time for offers has ended,” Raut said when asked about reports that the BJP had agreed to share the CM’s post with the ShivSena

Mumbai: The ShivSena, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Congress have been working on a prospective coalition, and an announcement is likely on Friday. Currently, Maharashtra is under President’s Rule, which was imposed earlier this month after the two parties that won the state election together. The Sena and the BJP — disagreed on a key issue and so couldn’t form a government together in the state

Sanjay Raut and Arvind Sawant have emerged as frontrunners for the post of the chief minister. Hours after the Sena leader Raut said that Shiv Sena will get a full five-year term as CM. Sources in the party said that Uddhav Thackeray is not keen to hold the post, following which the two names were suggested. “As party president, Thackeray would like to sit out and hold direct discussions with Sharad Pawar and Sonia Gandhi, instead of becoming the CM and then reporting to them,” the close source said, adding that another name that came up was of Eknath Shinde who refused to take up the responsibility.

While addressing reporters, Raut reiterated that his party will get the Maharashtra CM’s post when the three-party alliance with Congress and NCP assumes power. “The time for offers has ended,” Raut said when asked about reports that the BJP had agreed to share the CM’s post with the ShivSena.
