CM Yogi stops BJP’s Karnataka campaign after criticism

NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has decided to cut short his political campaign for BJP in the upcoming assembly election and return to his home state after facing criticism over the death of more than 73 people due to sandstorm followed by heavy rains on Wednesday night.

In a released statement by the CM’s office, Yogi would reach Agra later this evening and visit the most affected areas tomorrow morning. Later on Saturday, he will travel to Kanpur.

At least 43 have been killed in Agra due to dust-storm that was accompanied by heavy rain.

Opposition parties had earlier criticised Yogi for neglecting the deaths and continuing Campaign in Karnataka.

Former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav tweeted “People chose Yogi Adityanath to solve the issues of their state, not for politics in Karnataka. If he cannot return even in such circumstances, then he should form a math and stay in Karnataka forever.”

Home Ministry on Friday released the data of the death toll due to thunderstorms and lightning in five states in the last two days, as many as 124 people have lost their lives.The highest 73 people were killed in Uttar Pradesh, 35 killed in Rajasthan, eight in Telangana, six in Uttarakhand and two in Punjab.
