Congress to contest Rajasthan Assembly Elections without CM face

Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee secretary in-charge, Avinash Pande highlighted that the decision has been taken keeping in mind the tradition of the party.

Ahead of the upcoming Rajasthan Assembly election, the Indian National Congress has made a crucial decision of not announcing any chief ministerial candidate before the polls. Addressing the media persons present at the press conference, Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee secretary in-charge, Avinash Pande highlighted that the decision has been taken keeping in mind the tradition of the party.

Pande said that according to the tradition of Congress, the party never decides a CM face before election apart from some exceptional cases. “A discussion is held with the elected MLAs and then the high command decides the chief minister,” Pande revealed.

The Rajasthan Assembly election will be a do or die situation for Congress. While there is a palpable Anti-incumbency against the Vasundhara Raje government, it won’t be easy for the Congress to woo the voters. However, the massive gain in the bypoll elections has motivated the Congress workers.

To discuss the party’s strategy for the next six months, Congress president Rahul Gandhi held a meet with RPCC chief Sachin pilot and former Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot.

Pande further added that Rahul Gandhi gave the team approval for all the proposed programs to lure the voters. The team also assured that it will jointly implement it for better results. Pande said, “He wished us good luck.”

The state Congress chief Pilot in his address said that the expectations were higher from the Rajasthan Congress team after the bypoll elections. He said that the party has devised “Mera Booth, Mera Gaurav” (My Booth, My Pride) program to strengthen the booths. Pilot further added that Congress will not rest until it wins the 200 seat Rajasthan Assembly.

Asked about the meeting with Gandhi, Pilot said it was decided that the party will undertake a mass outreach program in all the 200 assembly segments of the state. “We will soon embark upon our mass outreach program covering several constituencies to target the youths, farmers rural areas and the middle class,” Pilot revealed.
