Congress’ policies escalated NPA, says BJP

New Delhi | The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) on Tuesday alleged that the policies of the Congress-led UPA government is responsible for the increasing Non Performing Assets (NPA) in the banking sector.

Addressing a press conference, BJP leader Smriti Irani said, “UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi led a government that attacked the very core of the Indian banking system.” Referring to a statement by former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Raghuram Rajan, Irani stated that, “Raghuram Rajan said that between 2006-08, the UPA functioning led to increased NPAs in India’s banking structure.”

Attacking the Congress party, Irani further added that “Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Vadra and Sonia Gandhi wanted to sabotage the taxpayer’s money”.”Congress policies escalate NPA,” she added.

Smriti Irani also responded to Delhi High Court rejecting Sonia and Rahul Gandhi plea challenging reopening of their tax assessments for 2011-12 in connection with the National Herald case. “Congress president Rahul Gandhi must answer on charges levelled against him in the National Herald Case,” said Smriti Irani.

Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi’s hug to PM Modi during the No Confidence motion Smriti Irani asked, “Why is it that Mr. Rahul Gandhi who is too quick to hug Prime Minister, would run a mile away when it comes to an Income Tax officer.”
