Congress top brass meets Sonia Gandhi to discuss present Political situation in Maharashtra

The Congress will be in the situation of wait and watch policy on the BJP-ShivSena catfight and is resisting opening its cards till things become clear

New Delhi: The Congress top brass from Maharashtra meets the party’s Interim President Sonia Gandhi today to discuss its strategy in the face of the ongoing tug-of-war between the ShivSena and the BJP over government formation in the state.

In this meeting, former chief ministers Ashok Chavan, Prithviraj Chavan, and state Congress President Bala Sahab Thorat and other important leaders will be present.

On Thursday the group had met Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar and discussed with him the possible political scenario. ShivSena MP Sanjay Raut has also met Sharad Pawar and discussed the political situation in the state.

The Congress will be in the situation of wait and watch policy on the BJP-ShivSena catfight and is resisting opening its cards till things become clear.

The ShivSena has been claiming that there was a 50-50 term agreement between the two parties but Fadnavis has said that the party’s ally was not promised the chief minister’s post for two-and-a-half years when the alliance was finalized before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 105 seats and ShivSena bagged 56 seats in the elections. NCP won 54 seats in the assembly while the Congress won 44 seats in the 288-member assembly.

The BJP’s chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis, has denied that there was no decision to share the chief minister’s post and he will remain CM for a full 5 years.
