Delhi elections 2020: Kejriwal’s AAP is going by BJP’s playbook

AAP is raising this question from the past several months as it has decided to fight upcoming assembly polls banking upon the brand Kejriwal

New Delhi: As Delhi is heading towards assembly election war of words has ensued between all prominent Delhi leaders from BJP as well as Congress on projecting Chief Ministerial candidate. Amid elections, Arvind Kejriwal is asking his biggest rival in Delhi-the BJP,  “Who is your CM candidate?”

AAP is raising this question from the past several months as it has decided to fight upcoming assembly polls banking upon the brand Kejriwal.  AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal who charted his path to mainstream politics from Anna movement,  first time became CM of Delhi in the year 2013 and 2014 which lasted for 49 days. But later when elections were conducted in 2015 in the national capital Arvind Kejriwal won the elections with a thumping majority.  Then novice party AAP not only scored big on election front but also halted the BJP’s victory march.

Surprisingly the vote share of the AAP has been declining since the 2015 Assembly election. Just two years before in the 2017 MCD election, the AAP lost 28 percent vote share after getting a huge mandate in 2015.

This decline continued in the recent Lok Sabha election 2019 when the AAP’s vote share further declined to 18 percent.

Meanwhile, the BJP gained has massive vote share in 2019 Lok Sabha from its past performance in the Delhi Assembly and MCD election which helped them not only to win all seven parliamentary seats but it also got a lead in 65 assembly segments.

On the other hand, the performance of Congress was not spectacular in these three elections. However, the party’s performance directly impacts the performance of the AAP.

During Lok Sabha elections cricketer turned politician Gautam Gambhir joined BJP and was challenged by AAP candidate for Atishi Marlene for open debate on Delhi’s progress but he declined for it and said he doesn’t believe in dharna and debate. Gautam Gambhir won East Delhi seat by 695,109 votes.

In the past three elections starting from 2015 assembly elections, MCD 2017,  Lok Sabha election 2019, Congress’ vote share has been increasing and it mainly comes at the expense of the AAP. Except for the BJP in Delhi which got more than 30 percent of votes in each election since the 1990s, the base vote of the AAP and Congress have been oscillating from one election to another. If the BJP holds its cadre vote and Congress gets the substantial vote share then the outcome of the Delhi Assembly election 2020 would be very interesting.

As the AAP party is stepping into the Delhi election once again it has got its own strategy to project its supremo as CM face and it is clear that his projection can bring similar kind of victory once again. Aam Aadmi Party is going by the BJP’s Lok Sabha playbook in the 2020 assembly election.

BJP leader Amit Shah last year during the general election used TINA factor(there is no alternative) while campaigning always asked opposition do you have any PM Candidate against PM Modi?. Opposition kept silent on this question but once Amit Shah in its rally said that opposition doesn’t have any PM candidate they have planned to project on Monday Mayawati, on Tuesday Mamata Banerjee and Wednesday someone else. Basically, the opposition is planning for Kichadi Sarkar which is not acceptable for the nation.

Kejriwal questioned the saffron Party why they are confused over the CM face. BJP has several leaders in Delhi whom they can declare as CM candidate but they want to contest the elections under the name of  PM Modi. Meenakshi Lekhi and Vijay Goel are the front runners for the post CM from BJP. However, the Aam  Aadmi Party has turned this into an opportunity.

“Who will contest against Arvind Kejriwal?” the caption always asks.

Arvind Kejriwal was always an ideal option for the AAP party for CM post as he is the founder of the party. Whenever we talk about Delhi politics the first name that comes in our mind is of Aam Aadmi Party.  The party has created the image that Kejriwal is equal to Aam Aadmi Party. Whenever we talk about Kejriwal the party’s policy, administration and popularity are always discussed more. In social networking sites also everywhere we can see AAP is highlighting more to Kejriwal. Apart from the tall leader, he is also the decision-maker for prominent projects.

Recently air pollution and water pollution sparked controversy and somewhere or the other Kejriwal was not ready to accept that it was state government ‘s responsibility to provide better facilities to people during unhealthy smoke. in the case of water pollution also Kejriwal government couldn’t act so much. Opposition several times raised the question on both the issue but he was defended by his own party members. Kejriwal launched an odd-even formula and distributed 50 lakh N95 Masks to school students. To divert the attention from water pollution Kejriwal has inaugurated Mohalla clinic. There are around 450 Mohalla clinics that are launched across Delhi. These clinics provide free health care to people. Basically Kejriwal tried to vow people of Delhi with its free schemes.

Aam Aadmi Party recently has launched its campaign to retain power in the Delhi. Even as the assembly elections in Delhi are a few months away, AAP has launched its campaign ads, material, and billboards. And there is no doubt for guessing who is the face of the campaign.

A day after the Election Commission announced the poll schedule for Delhi, AAP again challenged the BJP to name its CM candidate.

The BJP’s national leaders always ignored the question on Delhi elections CM candidate. When Amit Shah was questioned about CM’s candidate then he said we will campaign without CM’s face. BJP will form the government under the leadership of Narendra Modi. Shah told while addressing party workers.

This question was also asked to Manoj Tiwari when he said after the election we will decide who will be CM candidate.

Delhi will be holding Assembly elections on February 8, with results being declared on February 11.
