Saharanpur: Union Minister and BJP motormouth leader Giriraj Singh have sparked fresh controversy called Deoband a ‘Gangotri of terrorism’. He said Hafiz Saeed comes from the Uttar Pradesh town. His statement came in the backdrop of protests against the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act in the region.

“The government is not able to make people aware of CAA. I have always said that people from Deoband, who are against CAA, were terrorists; all the big terrorists of the world are born here. I have said it before also that Deoband is Gangotri of Terrorism. Hafiz Saeed belongs to here,” Singh told reporters in Saharanpur on Tuesday.

Deoband is a town in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh where women have been agitating against the CAA at Idgah ground since January 27. Some clerics tried to appeal to them to end the protest. However, they were greeted with slogans of ‘go back’ and a few angry women threw bangles at them.

“These people are not against CAA, they are against India. This is almost like a khilafat movement,” said Giriraj Singh, attacking the ongoing anti-CAA protests in Deoband.

The provocative statements of Giriraj Singh come days after he said the epicenter of CAA protests, Shaheen Bagh, is raising “suicide bombers”.

Singh alleged that “suicide bombers” are being raised in Shaheen Bagh. The hardline Hindutva leader posted a video of a woman’s speech on social media to hit out at agitators.

Mentioning to another video, in which a few children are purportedly making some objectionable remarks against PM Narendra Modi, Giriraj Singh said poison is being drilled into the minds of kids.

“This Shaheen Bagh protest is no longer an agitation. A group of suicide bombers is being raised here and conspiracy against India is being hatched in its capital,” Singh alleged.
