Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, whose party Janata Dal Secular is the key regional player in the May 12 state assembly polls, said both BJP and Congress were out to destroy his party and he was the sole practitioner of secular politics.
A source even reported Gowda as saying that he will disown his son HD Kumaraswamy in case he goes with BJP. He said that Kumaraswamy had made this mistake back in 2006 also, which had not only tarnished his image but also affected his health. Although he was confident that his son won’t go to the BJP this time, he said that in case he does, he and his family will boycott him.
Deve Gowda said that he will not contest in the 2019 elections and will look forward to the formation of a third front which will be sans BJP and Congress. He had even held talks with Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao regardng the matter.
The octogenarian will campaign extensively in the Old-Mysuru region, conducting rallies in about 40-50 constituencies.
