Shivsena supporting the no-confidence motion moved by TDP would draw embarrassment for the ruling BJP.
After holding a closed door meeting with Sena minister Anant Geete, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that BJP and Shivsena are still together. Talking to reporters after the meet, Fadnavis said that Sena has no plans to pull out of the state and central government.
In the wake of BJP’s another longstanding ally TDP leaving the coalition and moving no confidence motion against them, Shivsena supporting the same would draw embarrassment for the ruling BJP. However, Shivsena clarified its stand saying that it does not want to destabilise the government both at the state and at the centre.

“Shiv Sena is standing with us as our valued alliance partner both at the Centre (NDA) and the state, ” Devendra Fadnavis said. However, the chances of this coalition sustaining in run up to 2019 Lok Sabha elections are less. Shivsena in its conclave last year had clarified that it will contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections separately. Sena has been upset with the BJP leadership from quite few years. However, it did not pull out of the government.
On the other hand, it is also interesting to note that how BJP has mend its ways with Sena. Few months ago, both the allies were fighting a bitter battle. From Mira-Bhayandar Municipal elections to Gujarat election, the statements of the leaders were enough to prove that that there was a palpable tension between BJP and Shivsena. BJP even supported the rebel Congress leader Narayan Rane who has now been nominated for Rajya Sabha. The Shivsena’s dislike for Rane is not a hidden secret. The BJP however, chose to back Rane to tame its ally Shivsena. However, now that the party is facing the first ever No confidence motion against it in last four years, it had realized that without the allies it would be embarrassing for the government to assert that they are carrying out their responsibilities well.
