New Delhi | The Election Commission has asked Facebook to remove the posters uploaded by BJP MLA, O P Sharma, which contained a photo of IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan.
The EC has taken the action based a complaint received through cVIGIL mobile application
“EC sent me a notice last night. The post was made before Lok Sabha poll dates were announced. Can’t understand how EC is operating”, claims OP Sharma, as quoted by ANI.
The Commission had earlier asked political parties to refrain from using photos of any defence personnel for political use.
The Model Code of Conduct came into effect when Chief Election Officer Sunil Arora announced the Lok Sabha schedule, which warns the parties contesting the polls to beware of their publicity and propaganda actions.
The model code of conduct bars the government from announcing any policy move that may impact voters’ decision.
Lok Sabha elections will begin on April 11 and polling would be held over seven phases through May 19, followed by counting of all votes on May 23.
