82-year-old Jagannath Mishra has had a long political career. He was the Chief Minister of Bihar thrice. In 1975, he became the Chief Minister of Bihar for the first time. He became the Chief Minister of Bihar for the second time in 1980 and last from 1989 to 1990. He also got a place in the Union Cabinet during the 90s. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed grief over his death.
Started his career as a professor
Jagannath Mishra started his career as a professor and later became a professor of economics at the University of Bihar. He was very interested in politics. His elder brother Lalit Narayan Mishra was the railway minister. He first joined the Indian National Congress. After leaving the Congress, he joined the Nationalist Congress Party and later joined the Janata Dal.
He was also named in the Deoghar fodder scam case along with RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. However, Lalu Yadav was convicted by the court and Jagannath Mishra was acquitted.
