Thakor had joined the Congress party before 2017 state assembly election, however, he resigned from the party in April 2019. The rift between Thakor and Congress party arised when the party nominated former MP Jagdish Thakor from the Patan Lok Sabha seat, a seat where the OBC leader was keen to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha seat.
