Haryana Elections 2019: Former State Congress Chief Ashok Tanwar resigns from the party

Ashok Tanwar had staged a protest outside Sonia Gandhi’s Delhi residence at 10 Janpath. Tanwar alleged that there is corruption in the party’s distribution of the ticket.

Haryana| Congress’ infighting in the Haryana Unit has reached at its peak just ahead of the assembly elections in the state. Days after resigning from the post of all the election committees, former Haryana Congress chief Dr Ashok Tanwar has now submitted resignation from the party. His quitting the party can be a major blow to the Congress party. He has sent the resignation letter to the party’s president Sonia Gandhi.

Tweeting about his resignation, Ashok Tanwar said, “After long deliberations with party workers and for reasons well known to all Congressman and public, I hereby resign from the primary membership of the Congress.”

Tanwar protested outside Sonia Gandhi’s residence:

Tanwar had earlier hinted at resigning from the party. On October 2, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Tanwar had staged a protest outside Sonia Gandhi’s Delhi residence at 10 Janpath. The protest was staged a day after the party released its list of candidates for the Haryana Assembly Elections. Tanwar alleged that there is corruption in the party’s distribution of the ticket.

Ashok Tanwar is unhappy with the reins of Haryana Congress being handed over to the former Chief Minister of the state Bhupinder Hooda. Resigning from his post he had also accused that the ‘Haryana Congress’ is becoming ‘Hooda Congress’.

Ashok Tanwar was replaced because of pressure from Hooda:

After nearly two years of pressure from Hooda, the party leadership removed him from the post of state president just before the announcement of Haryana Assembly Election 2019. After this, Kumari Sailaja was made the President of Haryana Congress. Bhupendra Singh Hooda was made the leader of the legislative party with the command of the Election Campaign Committee. Tanwar was also included in several committees including the Election Committee, but he did not attend their meetings.

The party facing dissent in Maharashtra too:

Not only in Haryana, but the party is also facing dissenters in Maharashtra too. The state is also set to go for polls on October 21st. Ahead of the elections, former Mumbai Congress chief said that he will not campaign for party’s candidates as he feels that the party does not need his services. He also accused that the party is trying to sideline the Rahul Gandhi supporters.
