The ECI could announce the dates for the Delhi assembly elections anytime soon. Arvind Kejriwal, seeking a fourth term and, this time, also a certificate of honesty from the voters of Delhi, has announced a slew of promises to woo the voters. In this article, let’s discuss the poll promises made by the AAP ahead of the Delhi assembly polls.

Promise number 1:   Free electricity for all households

A promise later rebranded as a poll Guarantee by Congress in many states. The AAP has pledged to provide free electricity up to 200 units and 50% subsidy up to 400 units to Delhi households.

Promise number 2: Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana

Under this scheme, eligible women will receive a monthly financial aid of ₹1,000, which will be increased to ₹2,100 if AAP is re-elected.

However, those already benefiting from government social security schemes, such as pensions for senior citizens, widows, and disabled persons, as well as tax-paying women or those employed by the government, will not be eligible for this benefit.

In BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, the incumbent government benefited immensely after implementing the Ladli Behana and Ladki Bahin Yojana.

Promise number 3. Sanjeevani Yojana

The AAP has always said that health is their core poll agenda, and Mohalla clinics are an example. The AAP’s Sanjeevani Yojana promises free healthcare for senior citizens. The scheme will cover all medical expenses in both government and private hospitals, with no income restrictions. If a necessary procedure cannot be performed at a government facility or has a long wait time, patients will be referred to private hospitals free of charge. Something which is also a SC order. Over 12,000 individuals have already benefited from this scheme between 2022 and 2024.

Promise Number 4: Support for auto drivers

Auto drivers have been considered traditional voters of the AAP since its inception.  According to News 18, There are around 93,000 auto-rickshaws in Delhi.AAP announced that auto drivers would be provided life insurance coverage of ₹10 lakh and accident insurance of ₹5 lakh. Additionally, drivers will receive ₹1 lakh for each daughter’s wedding, ₹2,500 twice a year for uniforms (during Holi and Diwali), and coaching fees for competitive exams.  AAP has also promised to relaunch the PoochO app, which helps users book registered auto rides.

Promise number 5: Expansion of old-age pensions

AAP has expanded its old-age pension scheme, with 80,000 beneficiaries added to the program. This brings the total number of pension beneficiaries to 5.3 lakh. The AAP government recently launched a new online portal to streamline applications, which has already received 10,000 submissions.

Promise number 6: Dr Ambedkar Samman Scholarship Yojana

The AAP has announced the ‘Dr Ambedkar Samman Scholarship Yojana’, promising to cover fees and travel and stay costs for Dalit students from Delhi who secure admission to higher education at top international universities. Kejriwal announced the scheme amid the controversy over Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks about  Dr Ambedkar.

Promise Number 7: 24-hour water supply

The latest promise from the AAP, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced plans to provide a 24-hour water supply across Delhi. Kejriwal said the 24-hour supply has already begun in the Rajendra Nagar area.

Now, let us quickly discuss some of the promises Arvind Kejriwal has accepted that he has failed to fulfil.

Cleaning the Yamuna River: A promise Kejriwal has been making since 2015, repeated in 2020 and now ahead of 2025 polls.

The Yamuna River in Delhi is often covered with a thick layer of white froth. Experts have warned that the frothy layer, which resembles clouds floating over the river, could pose serious risks to people’s health. Kejriwal failed to fulfil the second promise of ensuring clean tap water for every household.

The third promise that Kejriwal admitted to not having fulfilled is transforming Delhi’s roads to European standards. Kejriwal attributed the COVID-19 pandemic and the imprisonment of Aam Aadmi Party leaders, including himself, to his failure to keep promises.

The Delhi assembly has 70 seats, and the AAP won 62 in the 2020 polls.
