“His father dropped bombs against India” says Digvijaya Singh on Padma Shri to Adnan Sami

Will not Contest Digvijay

Sami, born in London to a Pakistani Air force veteran, applied for Indian citizenship in 2015 and became a citizen of the nation in January 2016

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Sunday hits out at the Centre for conferring the Padma Shri on Pakistan-origin singer Adnan Sami, who became a citizen of India in 2016.

While addressing the rally of “Save the Constitution, Save the Country” in Madhya Pradesh, Singh said Adnan Sami’s father had “pounded India with bombs” when he was serving with the Pakistani Air Force (PAF).

“As Sami is Singer who hails from Pakistan, I had suggested his case to the central government for citizenship. Sami has got Indian citizenship under the Narendra Modi government,” Singh said, adding that he never made any suggestion to the government for conferring Padma Shri on Sami.

Digvijay Singh said Sami’s father had “dropped bombs against India” when he was part of Pakistan Air Force combat plane.

“Indian Army officer Sanaullah of Assam had fought against our enemy, was sent to a detention camp for failing to show documents during the Assam NRC process. This is the amended citizenship law of the Narendra Modi government,” Singh said.

Sami, born in London to a Pakistani Air force veteran, applied for Indian citizenship in 2015 and became a citizen of the nation in January 2016.

He was one of the 118 people chosen for the Padma Shri awards by the Central government last month.
