“India Desires Cordial Relations With Pakistan,” Writes PM Modi In His Letter To Imran Khan

India desires cordial relations with Pakistan but an atmosphere of trust, devoid of terror and hostility, is “imperative” for it, PM Modi said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a letter to his Pakistani counterpart Imran Khan, said India desires cordial relations with Pakistan but an atmosphere of trust, devoid of terror and hostility, is “imperative” for it.

The Prime Minister wrote the letter to PM Khan to extend greetings to the people of that country on the occasion of Pakistan Day.

“As a neighbouring country, India desires cordial relations with the people of Pakistan. For this, an environment of trust, devoid of terror and hostility, is imperative,” PM Modi said.

It is a routine letter sent every year, said government sources.

PM Modi also conveyed his best wishes to Khan and the people of Pakistan in dealing with the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic.

Lately, there have been number of instances where the two countries have set aside their differences and indicated a position movement towards bilateral ties.

The Indian and Pakistani armies recommitted themselves to the 2003 ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, surprised many people around the world last week, when he asked India “to bury the past and move forward” while saying the military was ready to enter talks to resolve “all our outstanding issues.” His comments came a day after Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan called for a resolution on Kashmir, which he described as “the one issue that holds us back.”

In another sign that relations between the countries are getting warmer, PM Modi sent a tweet wishing Imran Khan well after he was diagnosed with COVID-19.

On Monday, a delegation of Pakistani officials arrived in India for a meeting of the permanent Indus commission. It is the first such dialogue in over two-and-a-half years.
