INX Media case: CBI grills P Chidambaram; will produce him before court today

Reportedly, P Chidambaram was interrogated at the CBI headquarters overnight and now he will be produced in court on Thursday.

 

New Delhi| In what can be called as a high voltage drama, the Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram was arrested by the CBI late on Wednesday night. Currently, Chidambaram is in the custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The CBI and ED were looking for him in the INX Media case after Delhi High court denied him anticipatory bail. However, for more than 24 hours he was untraceable. The search for him ended after he appeared for a Press Conference at the Congress Headquarters. Almost 90 minutes later, he was taken away from his residence by a team of CBI officials.

Reportedly, P Chidambaram was interrogated at the CBI headquarters overnight and now he will be produced in court on Thursday. According to sources, the CBI will present him in Rouse Avenue Court at 2 pm. The CBI will take the help of a battery of lawyers because there is a big team of top lawyers from Chidambaram’s side too. The CBI may also seek his judicial custody in the INX Media case.

Meanwhile, there will be a demonstration outside the Congress office in Chennai this morning to protest the arrest of P Chidambaram. Congress party is also expected to hold a press conference today at around 10 AM. Senior leaders of the party will address the media.

His son Karti Chidambaram, responding to the arrest of his father said that the arrest of his father is a “malicious” act by a “pliant” agency. He said, “This is a totally vindictive and malicious act, done by a pliant agency. This is only done to settle political scores. There was absolutely no necessity to have done this.” Calling it a “trumped-up” case, he further said that this was done only to tarnish the image of Congress and the former Finance Minister.
