Jharkhand has become the factory of lynching and violence: Ghulam Nabi Azad

New Delhi | Congress Rajya Sabha leader Gulam Nabi Azad today while speaking in Rajya Sabha said that the state of Jharkhand has become a factory of lynching and violence.

Responding to the death of 24-year old Muslim man Tabrez Ansari who was beaten to death by the mob in Jharkhand over the suspicion of motorcycle theft, Azad said that Dalits and Muslims are killed every week in the state.

Taking a dig on BJP’s ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas’ slogan, Azad said, PM, we are with you in the fight of ‘Sabka saath sabka vikas’ but it should be there for people to see it. We can’t see it anywhere.”

Criticising PM Modi and BJP over their idea of ‘New India’, Azad said,” I request you to keep the New India to yourself & give us our Old India where there was love, culture”.” Hindus used to feel the pain when Muslims & Dalits used to get hurt. When something used to get into eyes of Hindus, Muslims & Dalits used to shed tears for them,” he added.

Comparing the Narendra Modi government over the previous UPA government, Azad said,” In Old India there was no hatred, anger or lynching. New India is one where humans are enemies of each other. You won’t be scared of animals in a jungle but you’ll be scared of humans in a colony. Give us India where Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs & Christians live for each other.”

Earlier on Saturday, a Muslim guy named Shams Tabrez died after been beaten up by a mob on suspicion of stealing a motorcycle in Jharkhand. In a circulated video, Tabrez is seen tied to a pole and beaten for more than seven hours. He was also forced to chant ‘Jai Sri Ram’ and ‘Jai Hanuman’ by the mob.

He was later handed over to the police who took him to a local hospital. After his condition got deteriorated he was taken to district’s Sadar hospital where he was declared dead.
