Kidnapping accused Nithyananda has fled the country, MEA says ‘No Information of his whereabouts’

MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar said that no official information has been received from the police or home ministry on the escape of Nithyananda from India.

 

Ahmedabad| The disputed Self-styled godman Baba Nithyananda has left the country and escaped. He has reportedly fled to the Caribbean country of Trinidad and Tobago. Gujarat Police has registered a case against him for keeping hostage minor boys and girls in his Ahmedabad ashram. There has been evidence of Nithyananda leaving the country after the arrest of two female employees from the ashram. The police have asked to contact the Ministry of External Affairs for his extradition. A case of rape is also registered against accused Nityananda in Karnataka.

After this, Ministry of External Affairs spokesman Raveesh Kumar said on Thursday that no official information has been received from the police or home ministry at the moment on Nithyanand’s escape from India. “We are not aware of which country he is in. We have to gather information about his location and citizenship. Only then will we be able to start the process of bringing back Nithyananda,” Kumar said.

Raid on the ashram, police rescues 2 minors

Nityananda is accused of kidnapping children and holding them hostage for raising funds to run Yogini Sarv Gyanpeeth Ashram. Janardhan Sharma of Ahmedabad has filed an FIR against him. In it, he said that his daughter has been kept a hostage in the ashram. After this, the police raided Nityananda’s ashram on Wednesday and rescued two minors. Two female administrators of the ashram were also arrested. Many laptops, mobiles and other belongings were seized from the ashram.

RV Asari, SP (Rural), Ahmedabad said, “Nithyananda is not in the country, instead of spending time searching for him, we will adopt a legal process to get him detained from abroad. Will bring him to India soon.” Two of his associates Harini Chelappan aka Maa Nitya Pranapriya Nanda (30) and Riddhi Ravikaran aka Maa Nitya Priyatva Nanda (24) have been sent to court on five days remand.

Two more arrested, including DPS headmaster

Two other people including Delhi Public School Principal Hitesh Puri have also been arrested in connection with the hostage of children, misbehaving with them. DSP KT Kamariya said that Calorex Education, a trust associated with the DPS school, leased the land of the ashram to the school without informing the police. In this case, manager Bakul Thakkar has been arrested for giving houses to women from ashrams in Puri and Pushp City. The CBSE has sought a report in the matter of giving land to Nityananda’s ashram.
