Lok Sabha Speaker invites YSRCP MPs who quit over Andhra special status

New Delhi: The five YSR Congress Party MPs, who had resigned over not granting Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh, have been invited by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan for a meeting on May 29, sources in the lower house secretariat said.

Vara Prasad Rao V, Y V Subba Reddy, P V Midhun Reddy, Y S Avinash Reddy and YSRCP floor leader Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy had submitted their resignation to the Speaker on March 6.

“There is a clause which allows the Speaker to call the MPs who have resigned, for a meeting. If she is convinced, she will accept our resignations,” P V Midhun Reddy told PTI.

The meeting is scheduled in the evening at the Speaker’s office, he said.

The parliamentarians had submitted their resignation on the last day of the budget session in protest against the Centre for not offering the Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh.

Later, they began an indefinite hunger strike at Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in the national capital. The Delhi Police, however, intervened and the leaders were shifted to the RML Hospital.
