Madhya Pradesh CM Chouhan’s brother-in-law Sanjay Singh joins Congress, bats for Kamal Nath as CM

Masani joined the party in the presence of Congress Madhya Pradesh unit president Kamal Nath and another senior state leader Jyotiraditya Scindia.

New Delhi, Nov 3 (PTI) In what can be called as a major blow to BJP in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan’s brother-in-law joined Congress. On Saturday, Sanjay Singh Masani-brother of Chouhan’s wife Sadhna Singh- joined the Congress party.

He joined the party in the presence of Congress Madhya Pradesh unit president Kamal Nath and another senior state leader Jyotiraditya Scindia. He even said that the state needs leaders like Kamal Nath as a Chief Minister instead of Shivraj Singh Chauhan. He even praised Kamal Nath’s Chhindwara model of development. “Madhya Pradesh does not need Shivraj but Nath. We all know how Chhindwara has been developed and is identified with Kamal Nath. The state also needs to be identified with him,” Masani claimed. Kamal Nath is a Member of Parliament from Chhindwara.

Taking a jibe at PM Modi’s campaign slogan, Masani said that the BJP has been ignoring “Kaamdars” (Those who work hard) while promoting the “Naamdars” (those with big names). He further added that he should only be projected as Chief minister’s relative and not as a family member of Chouhan. “My name is Sanjay Singh Masani. My family lineage and ‘gotra’ are different,” he said.

Commenting on the development party state chief Kamal Nath said that Masani’s decision to join the Congress is a reflection of people’s wish and an evidence of Chauhan government’s misrule.

The state will go for polling on November 28. The BJP has been in power in the state since 2003 and is fighting a strong anti-incumbency.
