Madhya Pradesh: Supreme Court Orders Floor Test Tomorrow

SC has also ordered the entire proceedings to be videographed. It also ordered all authorities to ensure that no breach of law and order takes place and floor test is conducted peacefully

New Delhi| The Supreme Court gave its verdict on the ongoing political crisis in Madhya Pradesh. It has ordered the floor test to be conducted on 20th February, Friday. The Supreme court has also drawn out some important directions on how the test should be conducted.

In order, SC has directed the Madhya Pradesh assembly to reconvene which was deferred earlier. The meeting of assembly should have only one agenda- floor test. The voting for floor test should be done by a show of hands.

SC has also ordered the entire proceedings to be videographed. It also ordered all authorities to ensure that no breach of law and order takes place and floor test is conducted peacefully.

The SC also ordered to conclude the floor test by 5 PM.

Kapil Sibal represented Congress in the argument, while Mukul Rohtagi represented BJP.

The crisis began when senior Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia resigned from the Congress party and joined the rival BJP. Along with Scindia, 22 MLAs from his camp gave their resignation to assembly speaker.

After these series of events, the BJP MLAs which were holed up in Bengaluru became a weakness for the Congress party. Congress has often iterated that BJP has abducted their MLAs. The speaker of the assembly, however, has only accepted 6 resignations out of 22.

Digvijaya Singh and DK Shivakumar tried to meet the holed up MLAs in Bengaluru. Digvijaya was detained by the Bengaluru police.

Former CM of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Chouhan and other MLAs went to Supreme Court claiming that Congress does not have the numbers to stay in power and floor test should be conducted immediately.

Today, the Supreme Court put a full stop to the chaos and ordered the floor test tomorrow.
