New Delhi | Malayalam Superstar Mohanlal’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday has given birth to rumours of the South Indian star joining the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and contesting the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Mohanlal after the meeting tweeted, “It has been a privilege to meet our Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this auspicious day of Janmashtami. Briefed him about Vishwa Santhi Foundation and our multifaceted social initiatives.”

According to media reports, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sang (RSS) the political ideologue of the BJP wants Mohanlal to contest from Kerala where the saffron party has a limited presence in the Left-ruled state. Rumours further added that RSS wants Mohanlal to contest against Congress leader Shashi Tharoor from the Thiruvananthapuram constituency.
The Malayalam Superstar’s closeness with BJP can be measured as earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited Mohanlal to be part of the central government’s ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ movement. While in 2016, Mohanlal supported PM Modi’s step of demonetisation.
