Mamata Banerjee wants Congress to join hands with JD(S) in Karnataka

The statement of Mamata Banerjee comes at a time when Congress in Karnataka has visibly locked horns with JD(S) along with the BJP.

The TMC Chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday expressed that the Congress and Janata Dal Secular led by former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda should come together ahead of Karnataka Assembly elections. Her statement comes at a time when Congress in Karnataka has visibly locked horns with JD(S) along with the BJP.

The JD(S) has forged a pre-poll alliance with Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party a month ago. However, both Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and JD(S) chief did not show any camaraderie. Rather, both of them have indulged in trading barbs at each other several times. CM Siddaramaiah recently had called the JD(S) an opportunistic party. So, the chances of both the parties listening to the suggestions of Mamata Banerjee are bleak.

Mamata Banerjee who is in Delhi today met the NCP chief Sharad Pawar and several others including Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut. Notably, she had also visited Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray four months ago.

Talking to media after the meet, Banerjee slammed the BJP government saying, “there are only a few good men left in the party.” Mamata Banerjee who was also a part of NDA coalition under the leadership of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee compared the NDA1 and NDA2. Banerjee said, “NDA under Atal Bihari Vajpayee was very different from the NDA now.” Mentioning that even she was part of that government she said, “Now there are some good people but they are sidelined.”

While the Ram Navami armed procession matter is still fresh, Mamata Banerjee also used the incident to point out that allegedly BJP is the most communal party. “There’s no party in the country that’s more communal than the BJP,” she observed. Talking about BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya tweeting Karnataka election dates before ECI, she asked, “How can a political party announce election dates before any announcement by the election commission?”

Talking about the stalled parliament session due to ruckus over no-confidence motion, Mamata Banerjee said that the government is scared that their own MPs will vote against them. “Which government doesn’t take up a no-confidence motion otherwise?” she asked.

She also praised the coalition of Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati in UP to defeat BJP. It is expected that Mamata will meet BJP’s Shatrughan Sinha and Yashwant Sinha on Wednesday.
