The former chief minister of Tripura Manik Sarkar’s convoy was attacked at Bishalgarh on the evening of Friday. Senior CPM leader Narayan Choudhury’s vehicle was part of the convoy and was reportedly vandalised by miscreants while Sarkar was addressing a meeting, reported the ANI.
An additional police force was deployed outside the office.
Pinarayi Vijayan, the Kerala Chief Minister condemned the attack stating that the democratic minds must raise their voices against the fascist and undemocratic forces.
He stated in his Facebook post, “It is shocking to know about the attack on former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and other senior CPM leaders of Tripura. Com. Manik Sarkar is one of the prominent leaders in this country. We condemn this attack. All democratic minds must rise against the undemocratic & fascist forces who have carried out this attack”.
Manik Sarkar has been the four-time Chief Minister of Tripura and the Politburo member of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M). He is one of the important political figures in Tripura, that have been ruled by the Left Front since the year 1978 with a five-year break between 1998 and 1993 when the Congress and its tribal party ally Tripura Upajati Juba Samity were in power.
