This time the ‘Jumla’ is from Derek O’Brien TMC

Derek O’Brien challenged the BJP of focusing on 2019 and then look after winning the Bengal Assembly elections. He asserted that if BJP is aiming at Bengal, TMC is aiming at Lal Qila.

Not deterred by the results of north-east assembly election held in the three states Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland, Trinamool Congress leader and Rajyasabha MP Derek O’Brien said that August 15, 2018’s Independence speech will be for the last time PM Modi addresses from Lal Qila (red fort).

The Northeast assembly election results have been flattering for BJP. While in Tripura, going from 0 to 41, BJP scripted history, in Nagaland the BJP coalition with NDPP managed to get the majority of the seats and claiming the stake to form a government. In Meghalaya, despite winning only two seats, K is in the government supporting the NPP-led coalition. Congress, on the other hand, was stumped in all the three states, including its traditional bastion of Meghalaya.

After the big win in North-east assembly elections, BJP National president Amit Shah had said that he aims to win Kerala and Bengal next. TMC which is currently ruling in Bengal has in the past locked horns with the ruling BJP several times. “BJP is celebrating a lot after the Tripura win. However, it should also not forget that there are only two Lok Sabha seats,” Said O’Brien addressing the media in Kolkata.

Recalling the Rajasthan Bypoll results, where BJP lost its Alwar seat, Derek O’Brien said, “BJP had won the Alwar seat in 2014 with the margin of 2.08 lakh votes. But in the bypolls it not only lost the elections but also its margin has gone down to minus 1.50 lakhs.”

He further challenged the BJP of focusing on 2019 and then look after winning the Bengal Assembly elections. He asserted that if BJP is aiming at Bengal, TMC is aiming at Lal Qila. Derek O’Brien claimed, “Writing is on the wall. In 2019, he will not deliver that speech in Red Fort. This is our challenge on behalf of TMC and all the opposition parties.”
