National Health Protection Scheme another “Jumla” of Modi Govt.: P. Chidambaram

P. Chidambaram asked, “Why should state bear the burden of 40% of the cost of NHPS? Introducing such schemes in the fifth year of the government is rather reckless.”

As the several banking scams have hit the country including the 11,400 crores PNB scam by Nirav Modi, the opposition Congress has intensified their attack on the ruling BJP. Continuing the attack spree, the former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said that he would have resigned if he had been in the position of Arun Jaitley. Chidambaram was addressing a gathering of industry professionals at Bharat Chamber of Commerce in Kolkata.

Chidambaram even called the GST introduced by the BJP government as a “problem child”. Slamming the government over its poor economic record, he said that the government has utterly failed to achieve fiscal consolidation. “The government will not be able to achieve its fiscal deficit target in the next financial year,” added Chidambaram.

Taking a jibe at the current Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram said: “If I was in Jaitley’s position, I would have resigned.”

Criticizing the government over the National Health Protection Scheme introduced in the budget session, he said just like other promises of Modi, this too is nothing but a “Jumla”. He asked, “Why should state bear the burden of 40% of the cost of NHPS? Introducing such schemes in the fifth year of the government is rather reckless.” He further said that the planning and implementation of the scheme will take several months. P. Chidambaram asserted the scheme was just a rehash of NDA government’s old schemes.

Speaking about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir he took a jibe at Modi government saying, “ A macho, muscular, 56-inch chest approach will not work there.” P. Chidambaram who has also served as union Home Minister said that Armed Forces Special Powers Act should also be amended.
