“Needless Controversy, RSS in favour of reservation”: Sangh

RSS fully supports reservation to the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC) and the reservation of backward on economic grounds.

 

New Delhi| After the row over Mohan Bhagwat’s statement on reservation took a political turn, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in its official response said that the controversy is “Unnecessary”. Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday had called for a dialogue on the reservation. this caused a huge political row leading to several leaders including BSP chief Mayawati and Congress’ PL Punia criticizing him.

Clarifying Bhagwat’s statement, the Sangh said that he was emphasizing only on the need to find solutions to all the questions on the basis of mutual interaction in society. RSS Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh Arun Kumar said in a tweet that Sangh’s opinion is on the subject of reservation has been clarified many times. He said RSS fully supports reservation to the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC) and the reservation of backward on economic grounds.

Kumar said in a tweet that unnecessary controversy is being raised on a part of Mohan Bhagwat’s speech given at an event in Delhi. He said, “Attempts are being made to create unnecessary controversy over some remarks made by Mohan Bhagwat ji in his speech at a programme in Delhi.

“Highlighting the importance of resolving all issues through cordial dialogue he had called upon everyone to exchange their views on a sensitive issue like a reservation.”

 

Opposition slams Bhagwat’s comment

Meanwhile, several opposition leaders including BSP Supremo Mayawati and Congress slammed Mohan Bhagwat for his statement calling him anti-Dalit. Mayawati said that it will be better if Sangh gets rid of its “Anti-reservation” mindset.

Congress leader Pawan Khera claimed that the purpose of Bhagwat’s statement is to divert public attention by creating controversy. He told reporters, “It has become a habit of the RSS and BJP to keep people busy through controversies so that people stop asking tough questions and basic issues do not arise.”
