Ahmedabad | Gujarat OBC leader Alpesh Thakor quit the Congress party on Wednesday, a day before the first phase of the Lok Sabha polls.
His close aid Dhavalsinh Zala confirmed this action and said that the Thakor Sena committee asked him along with two others to leave the party, in order to protest against their continued ignorance to the Thakor community, as reported by Times Of India.
He said Alpesh Thakor has no current plans of joining any party.
Earlier last month, he had denied all the rumours of him joining the BJP.
The OBC leader had said, “I will stay with Congress and will continue to support this party. I want respect and rights for my people.”
He further indicated that he will not contest the upcoming elections.
Gujarat will see the polling on a single day during the third phase across the country on April 23.
