Parties that lost in 2019 Lok Sabha polls support Shaheen Bagh protest: Smriti Irani

Union Minister alleged that protesters at Shaheen Bagh, who are protesting since a month, are raising anti-India slogans and criticising the Constitution.

Uttar Pradesh| Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani on Thursday said that political parties, especially AAP, that lost the 2019 Lok Sabha election are supporting the protesters at Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh who are trying to divide the country.

“There is anger in the entire country that in Shaheen Bagh, AAP and other political parties which had failed to win the 2019 Lok Sabha elections are supporting talk of dividing the country,” the Union minister who is on a visit to her constituency told reporters.

She alleged that “anti-national slogans are being raised at Shaheen Bagh”, where protests are going on against the CAA since the law was passed in Parliament. “Today, on the death anniversary of Bapu, I will only say that even Mahatma Gandhi is being cursed from the platform of Shaheen Bagh. AAP leader Manish Sisodia has given his support to the protesters of Shaheen Bagh,” she stated.

She questioned the leaders, including AAP leader Manish Sisodia, Irani said the level of politics has reached a new low as such activities are being undertaken on the pretext of Shaheen Bagh and “Jinnah wali aazadi”.

While participating in the Ganga Yatra in Pratapgarh with Deputy CM of UP, Dinesh Sharma, Irani said that she will pray to “Ganga Maiya” that better sense prevails on those who depend on this land for survival but praise others. Talking about two types of “sanskars” (morals), Irani said on one side there is a yatra dedicated to “Maa Ganga”, where slogans are being raised in every village, while on the other side, there is the Shaheen Bagh culture which does not allow people to enter.

She, however, evaded questions on Congress president Sonia Gandhi and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s visit to the state earlier this month.
