Rajya Sabha Elections Begin In 8 States

Rajasthan also has elections on 3 Rajya Sabha seats. Out of these, the 2 seats for Congress and 1 seat for BJP is almost certain.

 

New Delhi| Voting continues in 8 states for the 19 seats of Rajya Sabha. The voting will go on till 4 pm. Counting of votes will start from 5 pm onwards. Elections were also to be held in 24 Rajya Sabha seats in ten states, but candidates on 5 seats in 2 states were elected without opposition. BJP’s victory in 2 out of 4 seats in Gujarat and Congress’ on 1 is confirmed. The parties however will fight it out on 1 seat.

Rajasthan also has elections on 3 seats. Out of these, the 2 seats for Congress and 1 seat for BJP is almost certain.

3 seats of Madhya Pradesh

BJP

MLA: 107

Support: 5 (2 independents + 2 BSP +1 SP)

Total: 112

Votes needed to win a seat in Upper House: 52

Congress

MLA: 92

Both the parties have fielded candidates in 2-2 seats.

Total: 125

Votes needed to win a seat in Rajya Sabha: 51

BJP

MLA: 72

Support: 3

Total: 75
